your loving message of 22ndEditorial Note: See L01587. came in due time. May God help us to merit the loving tender care you have exercised for us. Brother Will attended the meeting at the Gibraltar BuildingEditorial Note: Church services for First Church of Christ, Scientist, Kansas City, Missouri, were conducted in a small hall in the Gibraltar building by Emma D. Behan. todayAs Written:to day. He says "they seem like a lot of sheep wounded and bleeding, and yet without a shepard".Matt 9:36 ¶But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. Mark 6:34 And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things.
I attended Mrs Baird's meeting. She talked about 20 minutes after which followed the Sunday School. There seemed to be considerable interest. The first question asked was this, in substance, "Who is the woman whose price is above rubies"Prov 31:10 ¶Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. . The answer from about a dozen came, "Mrs Eddy" This seemed to me strong meat for strangers. I love and respect the dear Mother of Christian Science and for this very reason I would withhold so great radicalism in the presentation of Mrs Eddy's personage and her blessed book, Science and HealthEditorial Note: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy as I heard todayAs Written:to day. If students are taught Science & Health they are taught to love Good, and if they love good they cannotAs Written:can not help loving the authoress of this precious book. I have tried never to think one bad or irreverent thought of Mrs. Eddy, but I have learned that I cannotAs Written:can not love even Mrs. Eddy as I ought until I learn to love all mankind, even my enemiesMatt 5:43 ¶Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. Matt 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; Matt 5:45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. . I have also learned that a constant talking of Mrs. Eddy sometimes becomes obnoxious to the public and only serves to array a. m. against her. Mrs. B. dotes a great deal upon the uncovering of error and from what I see in my students who have been under her wing this means to uncover the faults of other ScientistsEditorial Note: Christian Scientists
And this very error is that which perpetuates the division in K. C.Editorial Note: Kansas City God help us all to stop this pernicious practice and attend to our own business. But here I am practicing the same. But I do not do this broadcast as I once felt it my duty to do. I found some of my students regular attendants As Written: attendents at "Mrs. Baird's church"Editorial Note: Second Church of Christ, Scientist, Kansas City (also known as the Western church) was founded by Baird and her daughter, Jennie B. Schooley, in 1893. whom I did not know were located here. Mrs. B. did not ask me to take her S. S.Editorial Note: Sunday School class, did not ask me if I had anythingAs Written:any thing to say to the S. S.Editorial Note: Sunday School, did not ask me to preach for them sometimeAs Written:some time, did not ask me to come back, did not ask me to attend her services when I called at her rooms a few days ago.
The word has been given out, "He has no business here. Why did he not stay in his own field etc." If I should listen to the arguments of sense I would feel that there is no place for me. Our MasterEditorial Note: Jesus Christ said "The Son of Man hath not where to lay his head"Matt 8:20 And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head. Luke 9:58 And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.
But in the arms of Infinite Love I do find rest and peace that I have never known before. And I can be patient till God shows me the way. I do not court public work. But I see such a golden opportunity As Written: oportunity to do good that every week of delay tries my patience to the utmost. Error is trying to prevent my getting a charter from this state. The only thing against us is a decision As Written: decission of the court against Mrs. J. T. Coleman's petition for a charter while in St LouisEditorial Note: St. Louis, Missouri. Mrs. C.– acted very unwisely in her modus operandi and failed, and the whole affair appears on record.
Our petition will be considered by the court next Saturday morningAs Written:morn. The lawyer As Written: lawer acting as referee has reported favorably but has called the attention of the court to the decision As Written: decission against Mrs. C. But Love is all. Mrs. Behan called after receiving your letter. She was greatly pleased and read it to those of the family who were at home. I was away on business. I will act upon your suggestion to write something for the Journal occasionally I have not felt worthy to do this. Next week will find brother Will and myself nicely located in the "New York Life" buildingEditorial Note: The New York Life Building was Kansas City's tallest building and the city's first building with elevators when it was completed in August 1889., the best and most central building in the city. We can never pay you for your kind and encouraging letters, but Love does reward you Many thanks from the whole family and much love.
P. S. I have a splendid letter from General Bates commending our move to K. C.Editorial Note: Kansas City and expressing his gratitude.
