I have given the matter of my relations to our Church much thought recently, and my conclusions are that my presence on the Board of DirectorsEditorial Note: Christian Science Board of Directors is not conducive to harmony- This is not as it should be. I do not think that I am of advantage to you, the church, or myself in my present relation. This being the case I wish to present my resignation to the Board of Directors at an early day. Will you kindly indicate to the Board the name of the person who will be agreeable to you as my successorEditorial Note: Mary Baker Eddy recommended Septimus J. Hanna to take over for Bates. See L00120. and I will then hand in my resignation.
