Our Beloved Mother:-

By this express I send you a "dummy" of the Christian Science MessengerEditorial Note: Eddy had requested that The Christian Science Publishing Society start a weekly paper titled the Christian Science Messenger. It was established in September 1898 as the Christian Science Weekly and became the Christian Science Sentinel in January 1899.. I had expected to send a completed publication, as I wrote you yesterday, but we find it inexpedient to have it put upon the press, as it is the intention to have it stereotyped. I trust that this "dummy" will give you a sufficient idea of our conception of what this Weekly should be.

I ask your attention to the Salutatory, as it outlines in a general way the scope of the new publication. I also call your attention to item on the third page, marked with blue pencil. The opinion seems to be very general that the Morning Bible Lessons were prepared by you. Even some of the older students are of this impression. I thought perhaps it might be well to state the fact.

You will observe that we have given some space to current events. It occurred to me that perhaps it would be well to have a newspaperAs Written:news paper containing items of general interest, sufficient possibly to keep the workers somewhat informed thereof. I thought too, that our publication might be more apt to reach the outside world if it met it somewhat on its own plane, instead of confining itself exclusively to Christian Science matter.

We greatly hope you will favor this initial number with something from your pen. We think there will be general disappointment if we fail to have at least a christening word from you.

We shall hope and expect to improve the new child, both materially and spiritually, as it gets on its feet.

Yours with much love,
S. J. Hanna
