My dear and Honored Teacher:-

The work on Science and HealthEditorial Note: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy was pursued for months before I had the privilege of looking upon your face and sitting under your instruction. It was undertaken without a thought of interest or compensation. In doing it consciousness of Truth was built up and a sense of health took the place of a sense of disease and sin. During several months, beginning with November last, I have enjoyed the inestimable privilege of your guidance and instruction in the way of Life, not only in three classes, but in the work to which you called me.

Although the idea of compensation or interest has from time to time been spoken of, and revived by you yesterday, the advantage derived from your instruction and the honor of the acceptance of my unworthy services, are greater compensation than it was ever in my thoughts to receive.

I therefore hereby formally and finally declare that I have received the full and honorable equivalent of these and all services, and that you are in no way indebted to me; and I hereby renounce for myself and for my heirs and assigns, all claim to any further compensation whatever, in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal, at the city of Boston this twenty-eighthAs Written:twenty eighth day of August 1889,
