Accession: 067.17.005
Editorial Title: R. G. Fitch to Mary Baker Eddy, March 7, 1883
Author: R. G. Fitch
Recipient: Mary Baker Eddy
Date: March 7, 1883
Manuscript Description: Handwritten by R. G. Fitch from Boston, Massachusetts on printed stationery of the Editor's Room of the Boston Post.
Editorial Note: Fitch is responding in this letter to a claim made by Mary Baker Eddy that an article appearing the Boston Post is libelous. He says that their policy is to let advocates of each side of a controversy publish articles. The context here is probably a campaign by Julius Dresser in the Post that claimed that Phineas Quimby, not Mary Baker Eddy, was the true source of Christian Science. Dresser's initial article appeared on February 8, 1883, followed by a response by Eddy on February 19. Dresser's rebuttal of Eddy's article appeared on February 24. A final letter by Eddy appeared in the Post on March 8, the day after the date of Fitch's letter.
