Your favorEditorial Note: This letter is not extant. I duly receivedAs Written:recd & noted contents.

Your idea I think a good one to start InstitutesEditorial Note: This is a reference to the “Institutes” that were being established in various cities at that time by students of Mary Baker Eddy, often at her request. They were advertised in The Christian Science Journal and existed for the purpose of teaching of classes in Christian Science. in those places where students locate themselves. I would do so here did I intend to remain. I came here however only to establish the causeEditorial Note: The cause of Christian Science. & I think it is well started & well grounded. I intended going to ChicagoEditorial Note: Chicago, Illinois on leaving here and expect to do so very soon. I am glad indeed they are starting a church there. I desire to take hold & work in it. Until a proper clergyman could be induced to take hold as its pastor the students should agree in turns to preach. I would be glad to be one to so agree. I want to see a Sunday School in connection with it & there must be one.

I am most willing to contribute money, time & work toward it. I go to the cityEditorial Note: Chicago, Illinois next week to help Miss B.Editorial Note: Probably Ellen Brown Linscott. on a class. This cityEditorial Note: Grand Rapids, Michigan is too small. I desire to work in a larger field such as Chicago, since the cause here is well grounded. I would be glad to receive suggestions from you & remain with best wishes.

Your student
E. H. Hammond

P. S.– Who has started a schoolEditorial Note: Mary Baker Eddy sometimes referred to Institutes as “public schools.” in Chicago? if anyoneAs Written:any one?
