Dear Mother,

We received your letterEditorial Note: This letter is not extant. and were very glad to hear from you, and that you are well. Do not worry about us, I have a great deal of property in my name and some of it shows itself to be very rich. A manAs Written:Aman in mining, has to have either money or muscle, I was left last fall without much money, but considerable muscle, I have located nine bodies of ore this summer, which are very rich and it is only a question of time when they will be immensely valuable. Four of them are in a body and combined with a water right. I have already got rich prospects in Silver, and a little gold. I own this property alone and think I can handle it to good advantage next summer if not before, Mining property is coming up, a Gentleman has just come in while I am writing and told me of a sale of one piece of property close by me for $9000,00Editorial Note: $9000.00 in 1881 is the equivalent of $225,580.15 in 2019. the owner one month ago could not get trusted for a grub stake. It is such things that encourages me to stick to it, as it is a common occurrence where property shows up good by development. My love to Father & you remember Alice kindly,

Your AffectionateAs Written:Affection Son,
