My Dear Spiritual— Mother:—

Enclosed is a check of two hundred dollars, ($20000)Editorial Note: $200.00 in 1887 is the equivalent of $6,161.18 in 2022. to take up my note given for tuition. Very many thanks to you.

I dislike to take your time but I want to tell you a little of my experience since coming home. I reached my home Thursday afternoon. Friday afternoon Materialism took hold of me with a firm grasp with very high fever and severe diptheritic As Written: diphtheretic sore throat to choke the teachings of Christian ScienceAs Written:Christian Sci= out of me, I suppose. I thought of the old familiar As Written: familier remedies As Written: remadies Aconite, Bell, the different preparations of Mercury, Kali bichromicumAs Written:bi. &c. &c., but none of these things moved meActs 20:24 But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God. for "old things are passed away; behold, all things are become newII Cor 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. .

I held on to the teachings received As Written: recieved at the Metaphysical College, and am master of the situation, though I feel a little the effects of the conflict. Perhaps it is well that I should be my own first patient after coming from the Metaphysical College as doubtless the reflection will be all the brighter. It seems almost strange how I went to Boston and got into your class and had the benefit of your instruction, which is so far in advance of anything As Written: any thing elseAs Written:els, so unexpectedly, and I have wondered since if you could see anything As Written: anything in me at the time you asked me to go into the class that promised good results. Please pardon me if I have trespassed upon your time.

I am most respectfully,
E. J. Foster, M.D.
