Dear & Honored Teacher,

It is near midnight, but I must seek relief to my burdened heart in writing to you.

By invitation I attended a meeting this evening at E A Bailey's; and there I was kindly instructed by several. This is always welcome, if it is instruction. But it may be "words without knowledge,"Job 38:1 Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said, Job 38:2 Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge? as I think it was then. Bro. Bailey kept this up at such a tedious length that my patience became exhausted, and I responded in a way which is unwonted to me.

Oh! Mrs. Eddy, Oh! Mrs. Eddy! how insufferable is the shallow conceit which prevails extensively among your followers. There is not one of them round here who can understand anything but a repetition of their own shibbolethAs Written:shiboleth, (not yours) which with many is relied on as if it were a gypsy As Written: gypsey spell, a cabalistic As Written: kabalistic talisman. They think it is by their shibboleth As Written: shiboleth they demonstrate, whereas it is by the action of Spirit, which is not all compressed into their little form. They cannot see that I am spiritual, only because I am far more so than themselves. They "make a man an offender for a word."Isa 29:21 That make a man an offender for a word, and lay a snare for him that reproveth in the gate, and turn aside the just for a thing of nought. I understand them; but the few conceited ones do not understand me; and through delusion they will do their utmost to drive me off from you. I differ from them only in seeing the good and spiritual in certain forms where they see only mortal thought and error. I thus enlarge the domain of God. The very things these object to are received by others with devout thanks, as relieving As Written: releiving their difficulties, removing objections and strengthening their convictions.

I don't As Written: dont know how I can preach tomorrow. I must see you today as soon as it is convenient to you.
