I have waited for spiritual guidance in replying, but even now do not write to deny false accusations. God does not require it. Three years of devotion to His causeEditorial Note: The cause of Christian Science., however feeble; with no desire to stop, must speak that which word denials cannot. If guilty of your charge, I am the veriest hypocrite extant; for I have not the excuse of ignorance to plead, or extenuate the sin.

If your test is reliable and sure, then your duty is to name the sin; because, inasmuch as I never was made honest, or kept thus by a law forbidding the sin of stealing, neither have I refrained from entering the minds of the members of the Pub- Society. because the constitution of the C S A forbids it. If not honest, and a Christian Scientist from principle, then I am dishonest, and unsafe to advocate or teach Christian Science.

Finally my friend, having entered your thought upon your request; of course, as you now forbid, I will not encroach upon it again any more than I would enter the dwelling of a stranger unbidden.

Keeping before me the truth, that whatever of mortal mind induces our motives or actions will be made manifest in some form, our efforts have been, not to make a great ScientistEditorial Note: Christian Scientist, but rather, "Cleanse me, our God, from secret faults,"Ps 19:12 Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults. from all conceit.

Willing to abide this test, having no ambition to gratify, I shall play no part of a setter-up-of-strange-godsGen 35:2 Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments: . but, as I purposed, preach "Science and HealthEditorial Note: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy," strive to follow the direction of truth and Love, as I apprehend it in Christ. I am not angered, I am not a martyr. or wronged, nor a saint; I am simply happy in the consciousness of trying to do right.

And now, Ere I bid you farewell, permit me to ask a favor, which is unavoidable, because of your previous knowledge of my intention; will you please hand the enclosed draft into the Church fund; individually.
