Your favor of the 10th instEditorial Note: This letter is not extant. came duly. The contents were a surprise and a new revelation. Viz- That there were persons here, trying to injure my reputation as a "Christian Scientist".

The charges made are false and malicious. in every particular.

I never in any case gave, ordered, or recommended As Written: recomended medicine. I never manipulated a patient in all my practice

The other statement I am charged with as saying Viz. "That a person can be as wicked as he chooses and be a Christian Scientist," I brand as false and malicious as the others.

You say you will not give the names of my accusersAs Written:accusors. Will you say if they belong to the Association hereEditorial Note: This is a reference not to the Christian Scientist Association composed of Mary Baker Eddy’s students, but to an association of Eddy’s students and other Christian Scientists in the greater Chicago area.- I think to be just to me, I should know that much. Will you please show this letter to Mrs Eddy, who has my gratitude for her good and kind expression and opinion, and I can assure her that her confidence has not been misplaced. Mrs Sherman and Miss Platt send love and best wishes.
