For the just and the unjust, the wise and the illiterate, the rich and the poor, the sun shines, the rain fallsMatt 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; Matt 5:45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. , and the flowers give out their fragrance.
If we possess that which will produce a feeling like the genial rays of the sun, or the refreshing influence of the rain, or the balmy breeze scented with the fragrance of flowers, should we hide it under a bushelMatt 5:14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Matt 5:15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Matt 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Mark 4:21 ¶And he said unto them, Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick? , or proclaim it from the housetopMatt 10:27 What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops. Luke 12:3 Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops. ? If proclaimed, it would be necessary to advertise; but, says one, that is only resorted to by cranks. Surely this is a great mistake, for we find our leading men of the highest social standing advertising, and profiting thereby. Does not the scientist advertise his new work or discovery, whether it be in astronomy, chemistry, mineralogy or physics? Does not the novelist advertise his coming book? Does not the merchant advertise his goods? Does not the jeweler advertise his gems? Do not the clergy advertise their movements? Do not the musician and the elocutionist advertise their specialties? Are our merchant princes cranks because they advertise? Certainly not.
Then why should one profession arrogate to itself the right to restrict or proscribe advertising, merely because a few unprincipled or illiterate pretenders have presumed to use it? As well might we object to the sunshine, the gentle dew, or the fragrance of the flowers, because every tramp, every knave, enjoys them. Whatever is good cannotAs Written:can not be degraded by the fact that unworthy persons may have been benefited by it. As well deny the benefit received by the sun's rays, because we cannotAs Written:can not look at its glory with the naked eye.
Hence the above is the excuse for presenting in circular form the latest development in medical science - mental healing - which is proving a great blessing to the afflicted, curing more easily, more radically and more quickly than the old school methods. Its defenders are willing to submit it to an equal test with any of the present methods.
Do you say you cannotAs Written:can not understand the treatment? Let me help you to a slight comprehension of it. If you find a shortage in your balance sheet of any considerable amount, what is the result? Generally a profuse perspiration supervenes: what a relief when it is found to be only a mistake! The whole action has been one of mind. Have you ever seen a little child in a perilous position, when, to use a common expression, your heart seemed to stand still? On seeing the rescue, what a relief! All mind-action again. Do you remember to have heard of the severe illness of some dear friend, how uneasy you were, what anxiety you experienced, and, when the telegraph flashed "out of danger," what a grateful feeling pervaded your whole being! All mind-action again. Have you not, at some time or other, been subjected to fear so great that your cheek blanched and you experienced great agony? With the deliverance, what a calm came over you, how thankful you felt! Did a dose of medicine bring you relief in any of these cases? or was it the action of mind entirely? Because you cannotAs Written:can not clearly comprehend the modus operandi, therefore, can it not be? If you are cured of sickness, that, to you, should be the best evidence of the reality of the remedial agent. Can you comprehend how the "lilies toil not, neither do they spin, yet Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these"Matt 6:28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: Matt 6:29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Matt 6:30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to-day is, and to-morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Luke 12:27 Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Luke 12:28 If then God so clothe the grass, which is to-day in the field, and to-morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith? ? No; neither without labor can you comprehend the science of mental healing.
Its influence is gentle, yet powerful, and does not leave any evil that may afterward develop into disease, or cause inconvenience in any manner.
Its practice does not require you to starve or be in any way incommoded in diet, if
the same be reasonable, and in very few cases is it necessary to quit business. Its
action produces clearness of thought, a settled judgment, and a healthy, steady, self-reliant
status, which is so necessary to men operating rapidly. To the literary man whose
life work is thought, it restores the equilibrium of the natural forces. To the over-taxed
manager, it gives sure relief from excess of care, and a general toning of the system,
enabling him eventually to carry the heavy load with ease and comfort. To the maiden
and mother, it is like the gentle breeze, soothing the feelings, allaying the fears
and healing their sorrows. To the cross, angry, impatient dyspeptic, it is a blessing,
for it restores all such to their
“right mind,”Mark 5:1 And they came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the
Gadarenes. Mark 5:2 And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a
man with an unclean spirit, Mark 5:3 Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains: Mark 5:4 Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been
plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him. Mark 5:5 And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and
cutting himself with stones. Mark 5:6 But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him, Mark 5:7 And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not. Mark 5:8 For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit. Mark 5:9 And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many. Mark 5:10 And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country. Mark 5:11 Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding. Mark 5:12 And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter
into them. Mark 5:13 And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered
into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they
were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea. Mark 5:14 And they that fed the swine fled, and told it in the city, and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that was done.
Mark 5:15 And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the
legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid. Mark 5:16 And they that saw it told them how it befell to him that was possessed with the devil, and also concerning the swine. Mark 5:17 And they began to pray him to depart out of their coasts. Mark 5:18 And when he was come into the ship, he that had been possessed with the devil prayed
him that he might be with him. Mark 5:19 Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell
them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee.
Mark 5:20 And he departed, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done
for him: and all men did marvel.
or normal condition. It is not a nostrum, for the cure of every disease, but a method
of healing, capable of being adapted to all the wants of the human system.
Do not suppose for a moment that it is a mere figment of the imagination; it is a science that requires skill in the adaptation, and persistent labor in the application.
