Accession: 349A.47.069
Editorial Title: Circular of James Henry Wiggin's Bureau of Index-making
Author: James Henry Wiggin
Date: unknown
Manuscript Description: Printed circular of the Bureau of Index-making
Editorial Note: This circular covers Wiggin's qualifications as an index-maker, the importance of indices for serious works, a list of books for which Wiggin has prepared indices, references, and contact information. Wiggin also lists other services he can provide, such as copy editing, proofreading, and writing reviews of books, plays, and musical performances. One of the references given is John Wilson of the University Press, Cambridge, Massachusetts. The University Press published the sixteenth edition of Mary Baker Eddy's Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, and it is likely that Eddy hired Wiggin to prepare the index for her book after hearing about him from Wilson. She also made use of his abilities as a copy editor, proofreader, and editor.
