Dear Mrs. Eddy -

I sent the minutes of last meeting, promptly, and I remember that they were especially long, for there was much conversation, and I remember the great amountAs Written:am’t of writing I had to do before they were finished. I cannot understand why you did not receive them. However I will send them with the minutes of Aug. meeting -

Mrs. Philbrick wishes me to mention two ladies who have both done splendid work in metaphysics. One the lady who cured her husband, a drunkard, whose testimonialEditorial Note: This testimonial is probably the one found in “Extracts from a Western Scientist’s Letter.” on page 7 of the March 7, 1885 issue of The Christian Science Journal. is given by Mrs. Philbrick in your Journal, & the other, an unmarried lady, who has studied with Mr. Morrill, but would now like to study with you - one of her cases was reported in the Mar. Journal page 15Editorial Note: Although Beecher says that this testimony was published on page 15 of the March 1885 Christian Science Journal, that issue of the Journal has only seven pages. The testimony may be one by “E. T.” on page 15 of the April 1885 Journal.. The first one Mrs. Pinney has spoken to me herself about studying with you, and I feel that she would make a true scientistEditorial Note: Christian Scientist, firm as a rock. A relation will pay her expenses east back, if some arrangement can be made to have free tuition, which she cannot afford.

Miss Cox, the second one, has written to youEditorial Note: See 486.55.002., & Mrs. Philbrick wished me to mention her to you as worthy to study with you. Mrs. Philbrick feels now as though she must have some means to break the spell of mesmerism which has constantly worried her husband the past year - she said that rather than see him suffer as he has at different times this past year, she will have to give up her practice; for now he has a spell, worse than ever - but she will have to tell you particulars.

Mr. Morrill has just written to youEditorial Note: See 563.59.030. & wished me to state that what he has written is true - It is true; but also, what you said in your letter is true; a greater error in him has caused this trouble, & that must be cast out before he becomes one with scienceEditorial Note: Christian Science.

I also wish to speak of Mr. Whitehead - He is a sincere Christian man, of honor, not working for money; that is farthest from his thought in any good thing. It is not as if he didn’t have other means of carrying money for more lucrative But he has given up his business for metaphysics - studied with Miss Brown - He is able to meet the worst mal - mesmerist with his own weapon & incapacitate him & all others who work in it, by turning their own weapons on themselves - In short, he says that in 6 monthsAs Written:mo. time he can incapacitate every mal. mes - so that he can never touch a scientistEditorial Note: Christian Scientist again. If a pack of wolves rush out to devour us, we have the moral right to prevent them from destroying us - Haaman was hung on the gallows that he intended the honest Jew to be executed on.Editorial Note: The story of Haman and his execution is found in the book of Esther in the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament). Let the mesmerist suffer & die if need be, by his own trap.

Mrs. Eddy I want you to make our path clear to us, that we may not go astray. I do not intend to recommend anything wrong in scienceEditorial Note: Christian Science - I want to know what is best & right in the light of the infinite wisdom. Whether it would be right to carry out the proposition of Mr. W. - Not that we have done anything, or know the methods of it. Mrs. Philbrick, myself & Mr. Whitehead, all have an office together, 3 rooms -

If I have not explained myself sufficiently I will do so next time.

Yours with much love
