Accession: 382.50.011
Editorial Title: Eldridge J. Smith to Mary Baker Eddy, July 3, 1879
Author: Eldridge J. Smith
Recipient: Mary Baker Eddy
Date: July 3, 1879
Manuscript Description: Handwritten by Eldridge J. Smith on printed stationery that identifies him as a "Mechanician and Solicitor of Patents" in Washington, D.C.
Editorial Note: Smith is replying to a letter from Mary Baker Eddy (dated July 1, 1879) that is not extant. Apparently Eddy included a circular with the letter that Smith says he does not disagree with. He says that he regrets that Eddy and her husband are not planning to come to Washington D.C., as he would have enjoyed offering them hospitality. He discusses the sufferings of humanity and speculates on why, in modern times, its sufferings are not being healed through spiritual means as when Jesus was on the earth.
