I will attempt an answer to your kind favor received several days ago on the typewriterAs Written:type writer I can now after a little practice write at least as rapidly and certainly much more legibly, than with a pen.
I have been home now nearly a week, I expect to return to W'MSPORTEditorial Note: Williamsport, Pennsylvania tomorrowAs Written:to morrow or next day. I am doing quite well in my business - I mean that which at present so occupies my attention - but from which I hope soon to freed from I regard myself as only preparing As Written: prepairing the way for the new and better field of pleasure-work on which I am determined to enter. Oh! how much we owe you and the scienceEditorial Note: Christian Science you teach! Words cannot express the good it has done my dear wife and I - it is truly the pearl of great price"Matt 13:45 ¶Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: Matt 13:46 Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it. and now it seems but a reasonable serviceRom 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. that we express our gratitude to you, and do what we can to show others the way.
You do not know what an efficient worker you have in my dear wife - She is devoting her whole time to the work, and the pleasure she receives in doing good is all the reward the dear one can at present think of. I remember your saying that the "laborer is worthy of his hire"Luke 10:7 And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house. - that those who receive benefits As Written: bennefits ought to give something in return - at least it seems to me that Almighty Good from whence all blessings flowEditorial Note: This is an allusion to the first line of a hymn known as the Doxology, written by Thomas Ken in 1674: “Praise God, from whom all blessings flow.”, should receive thanks, and the cause of good advanced. in a practical way That is the way I feel. It is my dearest wish that I - even I may be useful in some way.
I am glad that a paper is to be devoted to the promulgation of the GOD-SPELLEditorial Note: Godspell is an Anglo-Saxon word meaning “good news” which eventually evolved into the word “gospel.”- that is what it is. Now this as much a business as anythingAs Written:any thing else and the judicious use of printers ink is a necessity I am ready and will do what I can to make the paper a success. I believe As Written: beleive it will be a success. What is to hinder? I feel sure that there are enough As Written: ebough intelligent, thinking people who, when they shall have had made known to them the principles, the purposes advocated by the paper, will liberally and promptly aid in its support. A relentless war will be waged As Written: wagd in opposition by those minds who are fearful of all innovations, in thought or invention, and eighteen hundred years ago crucified their friendEditorial Note: Jesus Christ, - this must be expected of course, but I repeat the times are ripe and for a harvestJohn 4:35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. and success will follow in the publication of the SCIENCE and HEALTH JOURNAL.
I sometimes use this argument in conversation on the subject of LIFE-SCIENCE (is that a proper expression?) I say the purpose of life is health and happiness, no matter how much one may have of other things in wealth, position in society, and all that the world prizes, without spiritual health - LIFE IS A FAILURE- This fact stands out in bold reliefAs Written:releif. Are the methods used to make life a success in the acquisition of health and harmony, efficient methods? The answer must be in pointing to RESULTS. Now there are MD's and D D's- (doctors of the body and doctors of the soul). How do they succeed in the methods adopted by them to do humanity good Oh, how eloquently the misery of a world speaks in condemnation! The methods now resorted to is not successful Is it not wise to do what the Master of LifeEditorial Note: Jesus Christ recommends As Written: reccommends ? i.e.As Written:ie To recognize As Written: recogonize the power of mind over matter, and exercise that power?
A loom that will not make As Written: wake cloth is not a good machine is valueless - however correct it may be theoretically, however beautiful it may look to the eye. A wise man will seek for the defects, and strive to correct the mechanical errors until the machine works right. He is a fool to continue the use of the machine that fails in results simply because As Written: becausee custom commands, and fear of the worlds frowns? New ideas - thoughts - inventions, must go through the annealing fires of persecution As Written: percution
As Jesus said "if the world hate you, rejoice"Matt 5:11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Matt 5:12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. - that fact is in itselfAs Written:its self an evidence that you are living for Truth, and in opposition As Written: apposition to the world.
I have written you quite a long letter - how I do wish we could see you todayAs Written:to day "face to face" and talk of these glorious, luminous truths, which makes the light shine in the dark places of earthJohn 1:5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. !
GoodbyeAs Written:Good bye dear Friend, With much love in which my dear wife so heartily joins
