When I see you – which I hope will not be long – then I can explain far better than by writing.
It has required and for a time longer will require my careful attention to look after my business interests here, or I will I will be likely to lose all I have been working for the past two or three years. Of course money enters into no comparison with the pearl of great price,Matt 13:45 ¶Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: Matt 13:46 Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it. but whereas the means I am suffering after is to be used in the good cause, I can hope and believe my present affronts are wise and necessary. I see nothing in this life worth living for, but to gain more knowledge of Life, Truth, and Love – You see this desire me me Dear Teacher – therefore I must not multiply words.
In regards to the letter which you enquire about – it was received and is among some other papers on its way from Williamsport,Editorial Note: Williamsport, Pennsylvania soon as it is received I will at once forward it to you – I supposed the letter I returned to you was the one you wanted.
My Dear wife is in Williamsport. She will be here next week. She joins with me heartily in my desires to Enter into the new and As Written: an better field of labor – She is learning and growing in knowledge - she remembers you in tenderest love and gratitude.
I hope Dear Teacher in a short time now that my business matters will be so shaped that I can see my way more clearly what to do. And I Trust it will be soon that I can see you. I will write you again soon in regard to this matter.
I enclose a little poemEditorial Note: This is possibly an untitled poem by Smith (E.J.S.) that appeared on page 4 of the August 1884 issue of The Christian Science Journal. – is it not prophetic of what will come to pass when the science of LifeEditorial Note: Christian Science is more fully understood?
Now Dear Teacher, I will close this hasty letter.
Laboring, hoping, for the good time when I can be engaged in that which is the delight of my spirit, and in which all the energies of my soul can be employed.
With full confidence that you Dear Teacher see this desire in me –
With tenderest affection,
