Accession: 382.50.065
Editorial Title: Melinda H. Smith to Mary Baker Eddy, November 9, 1883
Author: Melinda H. Smith
Recipient: Mary Baker Eddy
Date: November 9, 1883
Manuscript Description: Handwritten by Melinda H. Smith from Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
Editorial Note: Smith tells Mary Baker Eddy that the brother of her husband, Eldridge J. Smith, will probably call on Eddy soon. Eddy had met Eldridge's brother a few times when she visited Washington, D.C. The Smiths hope that Eddy is at peace and has large classes. So far, they see no prospect of gathering a paying class for Eddy to teach in Washington. They are constantly studying Christian Science and trying to help those they can but find the minds in their area to be "very crude." The Smiths own a portrait of Abraham Lincoln which they wish to sell for $2,000 ($53,384.31 in 2017) to a wealthy person or corporation. In the rest of the letter, Smith asks Eddy about various people who are advertising as metaphysical healers, as well as mentioning various metaphysical magazines they've seen.
