My dear Mrs Eddy:

Again, I am obliged to state, your second letterEditorial Note: This letter is not extant. finds my beloved husband still absent, and very occupied settling the details of the business that accrued to itself such various details during the year past – and it all devolves on my beloved husband, to see to the settlement thereof, – much of it he has to do in person instead of by Letter, taking much time and money. – The letters you have sent I cannot send to him or they will miss him – you will hear as soon as is possible from him – in a week we expect to be away from here but cannot tell

Business will call my beloved as early as possible to several places more – Therefore I state I know not what time he will get your letter to reply my dear.

But I think my dear teacher that I can safely state, he will not feel like leaving our home, as we want quiet to study all we can, please God, as early as the details of business matter will permit

I trust my letter will be some explanation. In the absence of my beloved husband I reply to all letters, by his request

With tender love
Cordially
Mrs Eldridge J. Smith
