Dear Mrs. Eddy,

Mr. and Mrs. Bates of Syracuse wish me to ask if they can enter the Sept. class.

They have just been through a class with Miss Cross but are now very anxious to study with you. They go to Texas before long and wish to learn all they can of Christian ScienceAs Written:C. S. before going.

They would like to be in the class with me.

Mrs Bates was healed by reading Science and HealthEditorial Note: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. She is the daughter of a New Haven, ConnecticutAs Written:Conn. M. D., and had been under the law of disease for eighteen years, until last Nov. she learned of Christian ScienceAs Written:C. S. through some BinghamtonEditorial Note: Binghamton, New York friends. She was then expecting to go into a hospital As Written: hospitable in New York City. The first of Jan. she went to Binghamton to see us perfectly well. Since then she has distributed books & Journals from the Gulf of Mexico to ColoradoAs Written:Col. and back. Mr. Bates's As Written: Bates' business is Steam heating. He had a belief of failing health from overworkAs Written:over work in his business and thought he must have a change. So he has invested in land with another gentleman in Texas. They own a tract of land 12 miles square- & have never sold any land to a person who would not sign papers to the effect that they would not sell or give away liquor or dispose of the land for that purpose- They are going to build a church there. It would have been a Baptist, now it will be Christian ScienceAs Written:C. S. I think they will make excellent As Written: excelent pioneers in Christian ScienceAs Written:C. S.-

About two years ago they began with a mission school in one of the worst wards of the city. Now they have an established church of 80 or 90 members and a Sunday School of 150 or more members. The pastor, a young man, is becoming very much interestedAs Written:interester, and I hope will study Christian ScienceAs Written:C. S. before long with you – The Rev. His wife is a cousin of Mrs. Bates. Mrs. De wolf became very much interested and healed herselfAs Written:her self of a belief that she has had from birth, but her husband was more inclined to doubt.––

But I will not take longer of your time. Miss Cross goes back to Binghamton todayAs Written:to-day & begins a class there tomorrowAs Written:to-morrow.

We have had excellent As Written: excelent success here for so short a time, owing to the confidence people have in what Mr. & Mrs. Bates say.
