Editorial Title: George W. Chase to Mary Baker Eddy, October 11, 1882
Author: George W. Chase
Recipient: Mary Baker Eddy
Date: October 11, 1882
Manuscript Description: Handwritten by George W. Chase from Newburyport, Massachusetts.
Editorial Note: Chase writes to Mary Baker Eddy that he received her letter (not extant) last evening. He apparently has some disagreements with Eddy, which he alludes to in the letter. One of them involves a "statement" that Eddy has asked him to make. He refuses to do so on the grounds that he has made the same statement before. This statement could possibly be an "endorsement" of Mary Baker Eddy that was signed by members of the Christian Scientist Association (see L09058). Chase also tells Eddy that he is planning to move away to "practice" and will leave his business in the hands of a friend. It's possible that Chase was going to try being a full-time Christian Science practitioner. But he tells Eddy that he will not need and does not want the "certificate" (possibly a certificate Chase received from Eddy indicating that he had studied with her).
