Your favor of 4th inst.Editorial Note: This letter is not extant. is before me. I see that for me to become possessor of your wonderful ScienceEditorial Note: Christian Science is not to be. It is not possible for me to accept your generous offer. I cannot raise $200.00Editorial Note: $200.00 in 1884 is the equivalent of $5,643.01 in 2018. to pay the tuitionEditorial Note: Tuition for class at the Massachusetts Metaphysical College, nor can I induce even one person to go with me. So I will have to content myself to remain in ignorance of that which I so much desire.

At the time you made me so great and noble an offer viz to remain and accept your teachings free I thoroughly appreciated the proposition in all its bearings, and had I been alone and free to act on my own accord should most certainly waived everything else and accepted the offer but at that time I was in company with a lady (the same who accompanied me when I called upon you) whose hospitalities I had been, and was then accepting, and she would not entertain, as you will remember, the idea for a moment to remain longer in Boston . I deeply deplored the situation at that time as I have ever since.

The field is very great here for a Metaphysician. So much sickness cancer and Ovarian tumor that did I possess the power I believe I could soon realize sufficient pecuniary means to compensate for my tuition in full. but I now realize that it is useless for me to think further concerning the subject.

Speaking of the paper containing the vile falsehood concerning your death, I examined the files of a Reporter on that paper, living in this city, and failed to find the one that I desired, he said he remembered the article, but as he did not have all the numbers probably that was in one of the missing ones. I shall however look out for old files of the Globe DemocratEditorial Note: St. Louis Globe Democrat & should I come across that one will certainly forward it to you

Very Respectfully Yours
H. A. Heathwood
