Accession: 526.57.014
Editorial Title: Philetus Burnham to Mary Baker Eddy, August 15, 1882
Author: Philetus Burnham
Recipient: Mary Baker Eddy
Date: August 15, 1882
Manuscript Description: Handwritten by Philetus Burnham on embossed lined paper from Lowell, Massachusetts.
Editorial Note: Burnham is replying to a letter from Mary Baker Eddy (not extant) that apparently notified him of Eddy's class that opened on August 15, 1882. Burnham writes that he is interested in Eddy's work, but it is not possible for him to attend class at this time. He has been studying Eddy's book, Science and Health, and has been deriving benefit from it. However, he is not clear about the relationship between Christian Science and the method and teachings of Jesus Christ, even though he feels that there is a connection between the two. He refers to Mark 16:15-18 in relation to this question. In reference to the recent passing of Asa Gilbert Eddy, Burnham concludes by asking that Eddy accept his sincere sympathy in her great affliction.
