Your photograph reached me this morning and I thank you heartily for it. It looks just like you as I remember you; you must be one of those whom, what we call - time, leaves untouched. For some time a plan has been slowly maturing in my mind and now that it has assumed definite form and shape, I will present it to you for consideration and I hope it will meet with your approbation. One remark you made in a letter you wrote to me about Mr. Linscott, exactly voiced my own conviction; you said, "we need traveling As Written: travelling lecturers". That is just what is needed today Mrs. Eddy; someoneAs Written:some one to take the field and present this subject to the people from the platform in such a manner that "those who come to scoff, will remain to pray"Editorial Note: This phrase is derived from a line in a poem titled “The Deserted Village” by Oliver Goldsmith (1728-1774): "At church, with meek and unaffected grace, His looks adorned the venerable place; Truth from his lips prevailed with double sway, And fools, who came to scoff, remained to pray." to paraphrase As Written: praphrase another's As Written: anothers remark. I know it can be done; I feel through and through an intense desire to speak to the people this divine truth. There are plenty of practitioners who can do good work; good teachers of pupils also; but there are few who can teach the masses, and those are needed. People need to be drawn to Christian Science; and many will listen when their interest is aroused, who will not take the trouble to read and if they do in most cases, fail to understand. The time is ripe for such action; the wave of interest is increasing day by day and I feel that with a singleness of purpose, an earnest desire to give to the people who have asked for bread and been given a stoneMatt 7:9 Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? , that living bread which cometh down from HeavenJohn 6:51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. , I shall be able so to present the subject as to win adherents to the causeEditorial Note: The cause of Christian Science. and sow seed that shall spring up and bear fruitMatt 13:1 The same day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the sea side. Matt 13:2 And great multitudes were gathered together unto him, so that he went into a ship, and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore. Matt 13:3 And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow; Matt 13:4 And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up: Matt 13:5 Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth: Matt 13:6 And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. Matt 13:7 And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them: Matt 13:8 But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold. Matt 13:9 Who hath ears to hear, let him hear. Mark 4:1 And he began again to teach by the sea side: and there was gathered unto him a great multitude, so that he entered into a ship, and sat in the sea; and the whole multitude was by the sea on the land. Mark 4:2 And he taught them many things by parables, and said unto them in his doctrine, Mark 4:3 Hearken; Behold, there went out a sower to sow: Mark 4:4 And it came to pass, as he sowed, some fell by the way side, and the fowls of the air came and devoured it up. Mark 4:5 And some fell on stony ground, where it had not much earth; and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth: Mark 4:6 But when the sun was up, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away. Mark 4:7 And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and it yielded no fruit. Mark 4:8 And other fell on good ground, and did yield fruit that sprang up and increased; and brought forth, some thirty, and some sixty, and some an hundred. Mark 4:9 And he said unto them, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. Luke 8:4 ¶And when much people were gathered together, and were come to him out of every city, he spake by a parable: Luke 8:5 A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it. Luke 8:6 And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture. Luke 8:7 And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it. Luke 8:8 And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfold. And when he had said these things, he cried, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. Luke 8:9 And his disciples asked him, saying, What might this parable be? Luke 8:10 And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand. Luke 8:11 Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. Luke 8:12 Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved. Luke 8:13 They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away. Luke 8:14 And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection. Luke 8:15 But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience. . If I am able to so start out, go from place to place and give public lectures on "Christian Science" it will help the practitioners and teachers in every place I visit. The interest I am able to arouse, will flow toward them naturally; so it will be a cooperative As Written: co-operative work. A little enthusiasm created in a city or town will be sure to make patients and students. It seems to me that the need for such a work is imperative and I feel like saying "here am I" to the callIsa 6:8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me. . I have enquired as to the possibility of getting this subject included in the regular "courses" of lectures which are given every winter in different places and think it can be done; this, with many people will have weight; those who look at it a little askance, will go to hear a lecture upon the subject sure, if it is included in their "course." The difficulty is, to decide as to the best way to start; I know that I can hold the interest of an audience sufficiently to get some of this truth into them; what I want is to get my audience; I have not much capital to start with but a way will be opened to me I know. I feel it.
Will you please write me as soon as possible what you think of my desire and give me your advice in the matter? My whole heart and soul will be in the work.
