I thank you for your answer to my appeal for help, - & in justice to myself will say I believe I have neglected nothing or lost nothing I gained from Mrs Eddys teachings, and I certainly am not willing to grieve her by an intimation contrary to the facts in the case. Her text booksEditorial Note: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. & The Bible are all the books I read - & all the time I can spare from my domestic duties is devoted to the practice of healing & reading – but you know that. I cannot run before I walk – Caution is a controlling quality in my mind I am told – but when I feel I am right I will not flinch.

Mrs. Eddy’s teachings are grander than all else I know outside of them, & when I learn beyond a peradventure that I can demonstrate their truth, my every thought shall be devoted to the work.

The most conclusive proof I have had of their truth was in the case of the little boy I mentioned in my letterEditorial Note: See 549.58.006., but doubting ThomasJohn 20:24 ¶But Thomas, one of the twelve, called
Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.
John 20:25 The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe. John 20:26 ¶And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. John 20:27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. John 20:28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. John 20:29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.
steps in & asks if the good nourishing food I provided for him did not do a greater part of the work. – I hear you say “O ye of little faith”, - Please have patience with me, for I have never seen a demonstration outside of my own endeavors. I cannot catch faith by a grasp – but am earnestly seeking understanding, and when I have reached that rock, I shall not be moved. I did not expect Mrs. Eddy to take the case of deafness I referred toEditorial Note: See 549.58.006., but as Christ made especial promises where two or three are met in his nameMatt 18:18 Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Matt 18:19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. Matt 18:20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. , & as I thought the offer of remuneration generous, & as I supposed the Association embraced many workers tried & true, I thought that for the good of the causeEditorial Note: The cause of Christian Science., or for their own benefit, or for both, they would think best to undertake it

People here say to me “Mrs Heywood if there is any truth in the scienceEditorial Note: Christian Science you talk of, why don’t As Written: dont you accept Mr Hewitt’s offer Et ceteraAs Written:&c ” Now please answer me candidly under the existing state of things, would you consider it wise for me to attempt to heal him (Mr Hewitt) of his deafness of so many years standing? I am anxious to do all that is within my power to do. but do not wish to bring contempt on the causeEditorial Note: The cause of Christian Science, by any rash or unwise art of mine – Hope I may not find it necessary in the future to burden you with my troubles, but I think a reprimand better than silence when one sighs for an interchange of thought.

Very truly yours
