Accession: 593A.61.032
Editorial Title: James Edward Frothingham to Mary Baker Eddy, November, 1882
Author: James Edward Frothingham
Recipient: Mary Baker Eddy
Date: November, 1882
Manuscript Description: Handwritten by James Edward Frothingham from Lynn, Massachusetts.
Editorial Note: Frothingham is apparently reacting to a statement by Mary Baker Eddy that he is insane, possibly in response to a letter he wrote to her on November 15, 1882 (see L17455Click link to view L17455 document in new window). He says that she is a charlatan, that he learned all he needs to know of Christian Science from Rufus K. Noyes, M.D. (Noyes never studied Christian Science), and that she is unable to heal through Christian Science. He refers to some former students of Eddy who had been part of the Lynn Rebellion of 1881 and says that they saw through her and that her charlatanism will be more widely exposed. He had hoped to teach Christian Science, not because of any belief in it, but as a way to make money.
