Your letterEditorial Note: This letter is not extant. receivedAs Written:rec’d. Beg pardon for writing on a postal, it was not wise, or proper. I have not obtained a pupilEditorial Note: Apparently Mary Baker Eddy at this time was requesting that students or potential students find others willing to study with her. For another example of this, see 092A.19.001.. As our conversation was brief, I did not understand that it was necessary to obtain one, before I took the course of lessons

Living at the South for many years, interruptedAs Written:interupted former friendships, returning, & living in another locality, I am a comparative stranger.

After taking the course, & benefitting myself & little boyEditorial Note: Likely Gorham T. Pearson. I thought I could speak advisedly & from experience. I am much more interested, since reading your bookEditorial Note: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy., & mention it to all my friends.

I have no doubt in time, I could procure one, & my sonEditorial Note: Likely Gorham T. Pearson being healed, would be the greatest proof of the science of healing by MetaphysicsEditorial Note: Christian Science

Thanking you very much for the great kindness you have already extended. I will only add, that I am more disappointed than I can express, that I shall not be able to take the course, as I intended, or anticipated.

I had written my brother, who is a graduate of Harvard University, & residing in Utica N.Y. that I had some hope of relieving myself, but did not indicate in what direction, as I hoped to be able to interest him, when he came to Boston at Christmas. I have been veryAs Written:ver desirous he should read the bookEditorial Note: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy., & of hearing what he would say about it. A letter from him this morning, wishing to know my projectAs Written:prodject! My last hope has now vanished, of helping myself, & “Hope deferred &c”Prov 13:12 Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.

Yours very Respectfully
Mary A. Pearson.
