Dear Madam.

Your esteemed favor of the 20thEditorial Note: This letter is not extant. came to hand this afternoon.

Your change of terms to me will make it utterly impossible for me to take a course of study. I could not pay $10-Editorial Note: $10.00 in 1885 is the equivalent of $265.31 in 2019. to save my soul at present, and am not earning the cost of my food. I so stated the reason of my asking free instruction, where Mr. Winkley and I called to see you in February or March. I said there, and repeat now "that I would endeavor to more than repay the charity to me, by doing what I could to send paying students to the College.

The reason I did not communicate with you earlier, was we were told that your next class would be in May, and I supposed a few weeks'As Written:weeks notice would be all that was necessary. I made all my engagements here with that in view.

I must bid goodbyeAs Written:good by to any expression study, and wish you and the ScienceEditorial Note: Christian Science all the success that true merit As Written: merrit deserves.
