Editorial Title: Martha S. True to Mary Baker Eddy, April 16, 1883
Author: Martha S. True
Recipient: Mary Baker Eddy
Date: April 16, 1883
Manuscript Description: Handwritten by Martha S. True from Patten, Maine.
Editorial Note: True is grateful for the benefits she has received from studying Mary Baker Eddy's book, Science and Health. She says that she has found the chapter "Recapitulation" to be particularly helpful. She writes at length of her sister seeking treatment for illness from homeopathy, and then from an alleged Christian Science healer who recommended that the sister turn to Warren Felt Evans, author of The Mental Cure (1869). True is surprised that a Christian Scientist would recommend Evans, as she feels that his teachings are not in harmony with Christian Science. She speaks of others who had been patients of Dorcas Rawson and had also received treatment from Edward J. Arens, but without result. True describes her desire to help her mother and others through Christian Science, and she asks if Eddy has a class currently and when her next class will be. There is no evidence that she ever studied with Eddy.
