Author: William H. Varney  Vienna L. Varney
Recipient: Mary Baker Eddy
Annotator: Calvin A. Frye
Date: February 12, 1884
Manuscript Description: Handwritten by William H. Varney and Vienna L. Varney on lined paper from East Rochester, New Hampshire, with notations in the handwriting of Calvin A. Frye.
Archival Note: Notations on this letter in Frye's hand indicate that it was answered on February 15 and that tuition for class is $300 ($8,306.69 in 2017). Also, Osgood was not Eddy's student. See L17741 for an annotated transcription of this letter.
Editorial Note: Vienna L. Varney and her husband, William H. Varney, studied what they believed to be Christian Science with Charles Osgood. They are not sure that they were taught correctly and want to know if Osgood studied with Mary Baker Eddy. William H. Varney also orders one copy of Eddy's book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures and encloses payment.
