Will you allow me, a stranger, a few minutes of your very valuable time? I wish to express to you my thanks. and wish that you could know how very highly I appreciate your very valuable books. “Science and Health.”Editorial Note: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. It is not quite eight weeks, since my attention was first called to them. I at once became greatly interested in them. and although I am very fond of reading and have plenty of it. I have almost exclusively denied other reading. and given my time. and mind to the Study of Metaphysics as taught by you. and I think it the most wonderful, important, and beneficial study to mankind, since Christ’s, not death, but life. Born, like yourself of Orthodox. Puritan parents. I have drifted from my childhoods belief, somewhat. and was more than ready. I was gratefully happy. to rest in your instructions. although it is new to me. as far as I can understand it, I can accept it. and pray for more understanding. I have no one to help me, but God, and your booksEditorial Note: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy..
A lady who was visiting me from Chicago introduced your works to my attention. She told me of many wonderful cures performed through Metaphysics. I had just passed my sixtieth birthday. and looked upon myself as an old woman. When I first heard of Christian Science. and thought my work was almost done. it seems to me now, as if I had just found my mission, but I want help and light to demonstrate. God’s As Written: Gods TruthsAs Written: Truth’s . I think this would be an excellent field for a good teacher of Metaphysics, many ladies are anxious to learn, that have never heard of it until now. A German minister’s widow. who has a little girl eight years old. that has lost entirely, the use of one of her limbs and is pronounced incurable by eminent physicians, is going to take her to some Christian Scientist in Chicago. Dr Sherman I think. am I too hopeful to think she can be cured? If I should still continue to grow young, as my family say that I have done since studying your booksEditorial Note: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy.. I shall hope to visit my native stateEditorial Note: Massachusetts once more. if I can do so. I shall certainly anticipate meeting you, and receiving instructions from you. I am so happy, in my unbelief of a personal God. and can feel his presence always with me. I wish your pamphlet on “Christian Healing” sermon on “The Peoples God.” a sermon also on “Christian Healing”Editorial Note: “Mind Cure,” a sermon preached by Rev. Cyrus Augustus Bartol on May 4, 1884 at West Church in Boston, Massachusetts. The sermon included a defense of Christian Science, and Bartol gave a copy of it to the Christian Scientist Association to publish and circulate. by some minister in Boston. I have not the address. Also your paper for one year. back numbers will be acceptable for which. please find two dollarsEditorial Note: $2.00 in 1884 is the equivalent of $55.38 in 2017..
