To All to Whom It May Concern

Rev. Mary B. G. Eddy

I am weary of waiting on the involuntary or voluntary motions of the infantile mind in Christian Science to become absolutely right on a single point relating to me. To help settle this problem I will once for all silence my sensitiveness and give the definition of my present genus homo, so far as I understand it, and I ask this favor of all students not to depart from my definition, nor to claim my authority for a departure.

1st

In belief, I am a human being and should be treated as such, and spoken of as such, until I find my place outside this state of being.

2nd

So far as I know myself, and history, I am the discoverer and founder of Christian Science. If my claim is unwarranted, show this fact by precedent or proof. Produce a single work before mine which contained my statement of Christian Science as in Science and HealthEditorial Note: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, or show this statement incorrect demonstrably, and I will then say that my claim is invalid

3rd I believe in the scriptural narrative As Written: narative and the evidence it affords that Jesus of Nazareth As Written: Nazereth demonstrated and taught the divine Principle of Christian Science. But I have no written or verbal evidence that he taught the letter of this Science.

At this period there is both printed and ocular proof that the world has receivedAs Written:recieved, through me, the statement and demonstration which proves the power of Christian Science to heal the sick. Also proves that its Principle, precepts and rules are divine. The above simple claim for my meagre personal self is just and true. More than this should not be spoken, and this no conscientious student, who understands Christian Science, will hesitate to say when it needs to be said.

In the flesh I am not what I desire to be; I am not what imagination would make me. I am not a heathen concept nor idol. I am not a personality to which others look and are saved, and the world's present ignorance of the place I occupy should suspend its judgement. I am not the Door through which to enterJohn 10:9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. , nor the Rock whereon to buildMatt 7:24 ¶Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: Matt 7:25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. Matt 7:26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: Matt 7:27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it. , but what God has spoken to this age through me is the way and sure foundation, and no man entereth by any other way into Christian Science.
