[*]Editorial Note: Start of a vertical line drawn through document. Our subject is the Science of Life and this gives it presents an infinite field for thought. Life is the Alpha and OmegaRev 22:13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. of mortal inquiry and the endless theme of the immortal Ancient and modern, sacred and profane history have recorded their theories of of Life. Both these histories have been made to say that Life is dual, it hath a twofold As Written: twfold nature, that Life is a composite which is the opposite of itself, and possesses two conditions which are the opposites of each other. We will briefly consider these two As Written: tw opposite statements of Life and the science of one of them, for being opposites, both conditions of Life, namely the spiritual and the material cannot be Science. This is a self evident proposition, that if two statements are the opposites of each other and one of them is Truth, the other one must be error. We accept gratefully the scripture's definition of Deity, namely, that God is Life and Truth, and learn therefrom that Life is Spirit, for God is Spirit. Then it follows that matter being the opposite of God or Spirit, of Life and Truth, matter must be error and mortality ; and [*]Editorial Note: End vertical line drawn through document.according to our theories matter and mortality contain those opposites of God named sin, sickness and death. Again, Spirit being Intelligence it follows that matter is non-intelligence As Written: nonintelligence. Spirituality and materiality being opposites they cannot dwell together or harmonize, and if Life is Spiritual, it cannot be material. We also learn from Science, reason, and revelation, that light hath no fellowship with darkness nor God with BelialII Cor 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? II Cor 6:15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? , therefore, that opposites such as Truth and error never blend, that Spirit can neither pass into matter nor come out from matter; even as light neither passes into darkness, nor comes out of darkness, darkness may hide the light but it cannot receive light and remain darkness. No more can matter become the receptacle of Spirit and remain matter. God cannot pass into mortal man. The infinite cannot enter the finite. Life cannot pass into death and then come out Life. Truth cannot enter error, and error remain, and Truth come out Truth; yea, Spirit cannot pass into matter and come out Spirit. Matt 5:12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. Matt 5:13 ¶Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Matt 5:14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Matt 5:15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Matt 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Matt 5:17 ¶Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. Matt 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Matt 5:19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. Matt 5:20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven. Matt 5:21 ¶Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment: Matt 5:22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire. Matt 5:23 Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath aught against thee; Matt 5:24 Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift. Matt 5:25 Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison. Matt 5:26 Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing. Matt 5:27 ¶Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: Matt 5:28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. Matt 5:29 And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. Matt 5:30 And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. Matt 5:31 It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement: Matt 5:32 But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery. Matt 5:33 ¶Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths: Matt 5:34 But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God’s throne: Matt 5:35 Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King. Matt 5:36 Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black. Matt 5:37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil. Matt 5:38 ¶Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: Matt 5:39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. Matt 5:40 And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also. Matt 5:41 And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain. Matt 5:42 Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away. Matt 5:43 ¶Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. Matt 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; Matt 5:45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. Matt 5:46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? Matt 5:47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so? Matt 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. Matt 6:1 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven. Matt 6:2 Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. Matt 6:3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: Matt 6:4 That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly. Matt 6:5 ¶And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. Matt 6:6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. Matt 6:7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Matt 6:8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him. Matt 6:9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Matt 6:10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Matt 6:11 Give us this day our daily bread. Matt 6:12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. Matt 6:13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. Matt 6:14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: Matt 6:15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. Matt 6:16 ¶Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. Matt 6:17 But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face; Matt 6:18 That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly. Matt 6:19 ¶Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: Matt 6:20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: Matt 6:21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. Matt 6:22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. Matt 6:23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness! Matt 6:24 ¶No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and
mammon.
Matt 6:25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Matt 6:26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Matt 6:27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? Matt 6:28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: Matt 6:29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Matt 6:30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to-day is, and to-morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Matt 6:31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? Matt 6:32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. Matt 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Matt 6:34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. Matt 7:1 Judge not, that ye be not judged. Matt 7:2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. Matt 7:3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Matt 7:4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? Matt 7:5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye. Matt 7:6 ¶Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you. Matt 7:7 ¶Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: Matt 7:8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Matt 7:9 Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Matt 7:10 Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? Matt 7:11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him? Matt 7:12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets. Matt 7:13 ¶Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Matt 7:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. Matt 7:15 ¶Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Matt 7:16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Matt 7:17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. Matt 7:18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Matt 7:19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Matt 7:20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. Matt 7:21 ¶Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Matt 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? Matt 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. Matt 7:24 ¶Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: Matt 7:25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. Matt 7:26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: Matt 7:27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it. Matt 7:28 And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine: Matt 7:29 For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

It is the government of the unerring Intelligence, the immortal Mind, the Life, Truth and Love that shall establish the reign of harmony or kingdom of heaven on earth. We learn of metaphysics that Spirit never sins, never suffers, hence its immortality. Our theories would have it that matter suffers, sins and dies. But matter has no life of its own and dies of belief dies to mortal view of its own physics, its own admissions “ as a man thinketh so is he"Prov 23:7 For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee. Now let us examine the history of material religion founded on material rites and ceremonies and the doctrines and dogmas of men; and compare this record with the history of Christianity As Written: christianity founded on the spiritual status of man and of God predicated of the science of Life and based on a Principle instead of a person . The science of being reveals the impersonality of Spirit the application of the divine Principle of all to every day's experience and how this Principle understood casts out error, and elevates man morally and physically. X Close here with the following The Christianity As Written: christianity that Jesus taught and demonstrated proved beyond a question the immortality of man, it proved that Soul reproduces its own phenomena forever, also that mortal mind, or erring thought based on materiality produces a body no better than the mind that fashions it; whereas the immortal As Written: imortal mind, or unerring Intelligence gives for the standard of man the fullness of the stature of man in Christ JesusEph 4:13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: . The Spirituality of Jesus and his teachings, and the materiality of the age and the Rabbinical As Written: Rabincal doctrines could not harmonize; Jesus would not if he could and could not if he would relinquish his spirituality; and the age could not at once throw off the cankering chains of materiality already eating into the hearts of millions, making monsters more than men, hence the result; they thought to put to a violent death the best man that ever trod the Globe. The missionary adventures of our Master's students, their success in Christian demonstration and their final passage from the cross, and the scaffold to a crown, we also pass over with reverent As Written: revrent steps The brief pain of Paul the Roman orator, in peril by sea, in peril by land, in peril by his own countrymenII Cor 11:23 Are they ministers of Christ? Of the different schools of Stoic and Philosopher it may be said they were sometimes right and oftentimes wrong; it is related of Justin Martyr that hearing of a Pythagorean As Written: Pythegorian professor of ethics he went to him and informed him he wished to become one of his disciples -- "very well" he replied, have you studied Music, Astronomy and Geometry, or do you think it possible for you to understand aught of that which leads to bliss without having mastered the Sciences that disengage the Soul from sensible objects rendering it a fit habitation for the intelligences On Justin Martyr's confessing he had not studied those branches, he was dismissed. Alas! For such a material Science! Of what avail were geometry to a poor sinner struggling with temptation, or to a man with the small pox? Ancient and modern Philosophy are spoiled by a lack of Science; they would place Soul in body, Intelligence in matter and from error of premises seek a correct conclusion such philosophy can never demonstrate the Science of Life that Paul understood when he said, "we must be absent from the body to be present with the LordII Cor 5:1 For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. " Philosophy so far from the rules of Jesus who was the Master of science His words that live in our hearts were these "except ye become as a little child ye cannot enter into the kingdom of heavenMatt 18:1 At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? Mark 10:13 ¶And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: and his disciples rebuked those that brought them. The arrogant Rabbis As Written: Ribbis and devoted Stoics As Written: stoics with their different religions and philosophies failed to demonstrate the truth that cast out error and healed the sick Uneducated Jesus introduced to a very material age the Science of Spirit that harmonized God and man, united Principle and idea and revealed the government of God; silence by his demonstration wrought on this statement the proudest systems of ancient and modern ethics. Does the calculation of the eclipses compare with the science that destroys sickness sin and death? Does the material code compare with the Spiritual proof of Truth compare with science that reveals Spiritual law holding ascendency over the material, that saith to matter thou art dust, nothingness, and to Spirit thou art Substance, Life and Intelligence; that saith to the senses thou art mistaken, for God and his idea are all that are real or eternal; science reveals this great fact, and reveals the Infinite Principle, and the Infinite idea harmonizing and filling immensity; therefore there is no space for materiality, when as the scripture declares God is all and in all and because God is all and in all and God is spirit there is no matter and Spirit is in itself for Spirit is unlimited and can be in nothing else, it cannot enter matter that is limited; And matter hath no sensation, life or intelligence of its own. Science contradicts sense. Spirit's phenomena are not understood they certainly are not materiality Spirit is God therefore Spirit cannot sin or suffer; matter cannot sin or suffer it hath no Intelligence or sensation Metaphysics are abstract until proved -- and they are proved as numbers are proved in one respect, namely the reversed statement of Metaphysics proves the rule We say of numbers that four times five make twenty and reverse the statement and we find that five times four are twenty so of Metaphysics reverse the statement that matter is not in Spirit And it brings out the rule of Metaphysics, namely, that Spirit is not in matter. Had they reached this law of Science and Metaphysics they would have understood it, and the law would govern them and render it impossible to do evil through Metaphysics. Jesus understood Life better than to conclude that life is structural or material, to him Life was the conscious freedom, purity and bliss that is never in or of matter. Handshift:Mary Baker Eddy He taught us that Spirit is impersonal, and that Spirit is Truth and Love; said he "Spirit hath not flesh and bonesLuke 24:36 ¶And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. ". – Some people speak of persons as of spirits this phraseology is incorrect according to belief there can be no mind in a shadow, no brain for mortal mind to work through, no nerves to convey the messages of this mind no blood to carry life through the shadow, no mind, no Intelligence no substance is there in shadows [?] Unclear or illegible  What then have you of persons in shadows You cannot have mind or sensation it is only error and belief that gives to nothingness a habitation and a name It is Only an error and belief too that requires the paraphernalia As Written: parahanalia of bones, blood, nerves and so forth, to make an Intelligence, but when these are lacking nothing is left of finite definitions to make a person. That Life is material or structural is a dream from which mortal mind is daily wakening It is a troubled dream and precisely like the dream of sleep with only one exception, that it lasts longer. Now had we not wakened from this dream it would have been still a reality to us instead of a dream Two dreams constitute what is termed material life, the dream of sleep and the dream when sleep lies not upon the lids, the longer dream we call the real, the shorter one the unreal of this life material. The pain we feel in our night dream we say is in our body yet our body we have with us in our dream and we may be far off from the body lying on the couch that is without pain. What then is this body of ours but an embodiment of belief? In the night dream we walk off with a body, while the body we thought we had a moment before lies motionless; should the head be severed instantly from the trunk, while in a vivid dream, you would be unconscious of pain or loss, and would still go on calling dream a reality. When we understand that all existence is a state of mind instead of body, that pain or pleasure is thought and not matter, we shall reason correctly on Metaphysics. Both these histories have been made to say that Life is dual, it hath a twfold Corrected: twofold nature, that Life is a composite which is the opposite of itself, and possesses two conditions which are the opposites of each other. We will briefly consider these tw Corrected: two opposite statements of Life and the science of one of them, for being opposites, both conditions of Life, namely the spiritual and the material cannot be Science. This is a self evident proposition, that if two statements are the opposites of each standards are entirely opposite of each other and one of them is Truth, the other one is errormust be error. We accept gratefully the scripture's definition of Deity, namely, that God is Life and Truth, and we also learn therefrom that Life is Spirit, for God is Spirit. Then it follows that matter being the opposite of God and or Spirit, of Life and Truth, matter must be error and mortality death; and [*]Editorial Note: End vertical line drawn through document.according to our theories it matter and mortality contains those opposites of God that are named sin, sickness and death. Again, Spirit being Intelligence and Spirit we learn is the opposite of matter it follows that matter is nonintelligence. Corrected: non-intelligence Spirituality and materiality being directly opposites they cannot dwell together or harmonize, We learn again Again we learn and if Life is Spiritual, it cannot be material. We also learn from Science, reason, and revelation, that light hath no fellowship with darkness nor God with BelialII Cor 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? II Cor 6:15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? , therefore, that opposites such as Truth and error never blend, that never mingle and remain opposites, hence Spirit can neither pass into matter nor come out out from matter; even as light can neither passes into darkness, nor comes out of darkness, while darkness may hide the light but it cannot receive the light and remain darkness.
