Message to The Mother Church for 1902

This was Mary Baker Eddy’s annual message to The Mother Church, given on Communion Sunday, June 15, 1902. It was read by Richard Wood Cone at two Communion Services held at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. in Mechanics Hall in Boston, Massachusetts, in order to accommodate all who wished to attend. In her message, Eddy took an in-depth look at the First Commandment, God’s nature as infinite Love, and Jesus’ commandment to love one another, which are all foundational teachings imperative to the practice of Christian Science. Boston newspapers published accounts of the meeting, and the Boston Herald published Eddy's message in full.

It was subsequently made available as a pamphlet, which was first announced on page 7 of the Christian Science Sentinel for June 26, 1902 and then on page 67 of the September 1902 issue of The Christian Science Journal: Deckled edges. Price, 50 cents per copy, $4.50 per dozen copies, prepaid. Message to The Mother Church for 1902 is still published today by The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in a number of languages as a part of the compilations of Eddy's Prose Works and her Collected Shorter Writings.
