Editorial Note: This letter was written during the disciplining, in the fall of 1909, of Augusta E. Stetson, the most prominent member of First Church of Christ, Scientist, New York. Stetson's excommunication from The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts for teaching and conduct contrary to Christian Science, took place on November 18, 1909.

Beloved Brethren:

I hereby request you to immediately investigate the newspaper and other reports, with regard to alleged unscientific practice of Mrs. Augusta E. Stetson and her students in First Church of Christ, Scientist of New York City.

You are authorized to call Mrs. Stetson before your body to answer certain questions, and satisfy yourselves as to what she is doing, and demand her to stop or be expelled from the Church. Give her only a short time in which to do this.

I hereby charge you not to let others read this letter, nor one of the Directors to report one word on this subject, but take this matter into your own hands and handle it according to the Church Manual, and leave me out of the question.
