My dear Student

The last mystery (not of Pleasant View) is - Mr. Clark's saying he apologized to me for two contradicting articles! He has not. Why I was astounded at the "explanation of my successor" not appearing with your last article in the HeraldEditorial Note: New York Herald was that as near as I remember I charged Mr. Frye last Monday or Tuesday to telegraph to you that I wished to have it appear in you copy for the Herald. He, Mr. Frye, does not remember this so it must be that he did forget to wire you. Excuse my surprise expressed in letter. I knew if anyoneAs Written:any one but me answered that question it would be made stock for jests and never stopped till I was heard from. It has been in the papers that I was drilling Mr Frye for my successor.

The article from the West relative to you is fine I think much of it and shall keep it. This whirlpool of stuff in the press is only to affect the lawsuit pending trialEditorial Note: This is a reference to a libel suit against Mary Baker Eddy by Josephine Curtis Woodbury. The suit was filed on July 31, 1899 and concluded in Eddy's favor on June 5, 1901. The editors of papers do not know why they are so mesmerized Be as cool and comfortable as you can You surprise me with your calmness
