Dear Student,

Your packageEditorial Note: Mary Baker Eddy may have engaged James Ackland to proofread copy for the third edition of her book, Science and Health, which was published on August 17, 1881. The “package” referred to here may have contained material related to this project. Or, it may have contained copies of “Private Directions for Metaphysical Healing,” a manuscript Eddy had asked Ackland to print for her. came duly but I found the stamp of copyright was not on it I have it all copyrighted but must now expose it to a Printer here to have it printed on it. Will you please send those you retained and let me have it put on those at your very earliest convenience

You shall have an old book as soon as I get my revision complete and a new one when they are printedEditorial Note: In his letter of December 29, 1880 (146.23.014), Ackland said he was returning a copy of Mary Baker Eddy’s book, Science and Health, to her, and asked for another to be sent to him. Apparently he wanted to receive a copy of the third edition of Science and Health, which Eddy had been working on but was not published until August 17, 1881. I have it all to write over of the first three chapters, they will not take it otherwise So I am a little more than busy just now

Yours truly
M B G. Eddy

Rec'd of James C. Ackland $12 twelve dollarsEditorial Note: $12 in 1881 is the equivalent of $302.75 in 2016.
