My dear Student,

Did you get my paper did you like the poemEditorial Note: “Woman’s Rights” by Mary Baker Eddy. on the first page? I liked Healthful SuggestionsEditorial Note: “Healthful Suggestions” is an article by Eldridge J. Smith, found on page 5 of the August 4, 1883 issue of The Christian Science Journal.. Thanks for your letter The "propria personae" was under peculiar circumstances God grant me respite As Written: respit in "the sweet by and by"Editorial Note: This is a reference to a hymn with words by S. Fillmore Bennett and music by Joseph P. Webster. Its chorus includes the lines: “In the sweet by and by / We shall meet on that beautiful shore.” I flee to you, but my poor tired womanhood shuns the pity of all. If only the warfare As Written: warefare was open, and I had one strong nature like dear Gilbert's or your own to share my cares and burdens I could endure it better

As it is, I have all this superstructure of Christian Science resting on my shoulders and no moments yet of rest. I hope it all will not again go crashing down over my head and ears if I let go for a brief space, for if it does I shall not rebuild again at the awful cost of the past two years

You are doing what seems certainly to be your present duty. You are just glorious in your manly strength and courage But "I need thee, O I need thee, every hour I need thee"Editorial Note: This is an allusion to the hymn “I Need Thee every hour” with words by Annie Sherwood Hawks (1836-1918) and music by Robert Lowry (1826-1899). in this causeEditorial Note: The Cause of Christian Science. The funds for our paper are getting insufficient and the Treasurer has resignedEditorial Note: Julia S. Bartlett was Treasurer of the Church of Christ (Scientist) during 1883. However, she also held an additional position, the "Committee on Collection," from which she resigned, apparently about the time this letter was written. Her resignation as Committee on Collection was accepted at a meeting of the Church in October 1883, but she continued on as Treasurer. Eddy may have been thinking of Bartlett's resignation as Committee on Collection when she says here that "the Treasurer has resigned.". I have given all my work so far, as editor have preached to my little church four years without a dollar over and above what I have put back into the church work and expenses. But this is weak to recapitulate

This however I must do, with the lawsuit and all that hangs about me I must get rid of some of my tasks and the causeEditorial Note: The Cause of Christian Science will feel it unless you take hold just here. God will help you to, won’t As Written: wont Love and Truth? Yes dear I can trust and hold the fort a little longer

Ever the same confiding, working, loving
