Your paper and letters arrived safely and I improve the first opportunity convenient to reply.

I would like to make friendship first, and business last, instead of business first and friends and God last, but sometimes the pressure demands a little delay even from me.

I went in May to ChicagoEditorial Note: Chicago, Illinois at the imperative call of people there and my own sense of the need. This great work had been started but my students needed me to give it a right foundation and impulse in that city of ceaseless enterprise. So I went, and in three weeks taught a class of 25 pupils, lectured in Music Hall to a full house, got 20 subscriptions for my Journal, sold about thirty copies of Science and HealthEditorial Note: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. etc. In the class were three M.D.'s and two clergymen — one Methodist, the other UniversalistAs Written:universalist both good thinkers and scholarly

I had a large amount or percent of Spiritualists for students; one Mr. CrockerEditorial Note: John B. Crocker, a lordly man, had carried the West almost on spiritualism he renounced his folly very manfully before the class. The distinguished ReverendAs Written:Rev. by the name of Thomas, a D.D. visited my class. But how they all fear and shake before — the phantom popularity

But Christian ScienceAs Written:Christian science is becoming popular in Boston – I will send you by this mail Dr. Bartol's sermon on "Mental Healing"; and the AdvertiserEditorial Note: Boston Advertiser.

A lady educated in a convent a Catholic, and just as secretly wicked as that theory naturally makes one, was healed mind and body by a few minutes conversation with me in Chicago She changed her whole course of life and her letterEditorial Note: This letter is not extant. to me since my return alludes to it

In haste. Ever the same
