Thanks for my holiday present as per agreement. I advertised in the Dec. C. S. Journal that I should decline receiving gifts. I had then had a number, and one was a check of $600Editorial Note: $600.00 in 1890 is the equivalent of $21,168.21 in 2025.. A large number came even after that, and in all about 40, and as many more had gotten ready to send theirs when they read my request in the Jour. and kept them.

One C. S. AssociationAs Written:Asso. in the West had arranged to send me 80 gifts.— That was indeed Western!

I wanted to stop it and have my dear friends and students do more good with their money So many are needing it more than I am

Never heard of Mr Wilson's illness until you named it in the letter or card of the 8th inst.Editorial Note: See 349BP1.47.002.

Thanks for good Mr. Wilson's good judgment As Written: judgement. He, my adopted son, is no talker. His brothers are elegant conversationalistsAs Written:conversationists, but no one can be more level-headedAs Written:level headed or better-hearted than the Doctor He has some of the freshest, rarest qualities of mind I have ever found; but one must know him to find this out, for they lie not on the surface of his character Dr. Fluno (one of my students whom I believe you knew) has started a monthly Mag.Editorial Note: The Beacon in San Francisco. Mrs Stetson has a large flourishing Church in N York City

My high regards to Mrs. Wiggin.

Very truly
