Dear Sarah,

Your interesting letterEditorial Note: This letter is not extant. came duly and I was glad to hear of your prosperity As Written: posperity Mrs. Colby had consulted me with regard your doctoring her Mother and I told her you could

I received some money by way of Mrs Babb 75 00 ctsEditorial Note: $0.75 in 1870 is the equivalent of $14.82 in 2020. I think; you had better not send it to me except you prefer to do so only annually

I had a scene here last eve that I will name The members of my last class meet once a week at Mr. Olivers to talk science and benefit by arguing and discussing it I am occasionally to look in on them to cheer their labors Well at the hour of meeting Mr. Oliver and Richard came to my door I opened it and Richard held a landscape painting the gift of Mr. Oliver; and he had a silver pitcher and casket the pitcher was from my class, the casket contained a ring the gift of one individual not of the class

The painting is one of the finest I ever saw an Autumn view taken from my native hills and stream, the frame also is elaborate the pitcher was one of the most elegant to be found Richard bought it for the class so you can realize it would be; the ring contained a large Amethyst As Written: Amethest and is perfectly splendid; my surprise can be more readily imagined than described,—

I was not looking for it they had planned As Written: planed all but the picture out of my sight,

I must hasten to close for the bell will soon ring for dinner

YoursAs Written:Yr's Truly
