My beloved Students:--
I hope our dear Camilla will As Written: wil enjoy her faithfulness as a daughter and have a little recreation besides. I hope the animal that you have chosen to recreate you a little will help you bear some of your burdens. The drive is my only respiteAs Written:respit although that is filled with usefulness.

Now if you will take pay for your labor I will suggest that you require of them the terms you made before and read the plate proof yourself. If you think this will hold them safely then write the biography and I will read it. But what about the payment for this? I never will again surrender just recompense for literature, that procures more readers than perhaps any other of the contributors, unless you advise it.
Enclosed is a copy of my letterEditorial Note: This letter is not extant. to Mrs. Dukes. I certainly sent the letter that is lost. Your cares, labors and their faithful performance are known without naming them, but for one I wish to express my gratitude to you as the greatest and most important co-worker with me. Here I will add, when the editorial chairEditorial Note: This is a reference to the role of editor of The Christian Science Journal. was vacant my first thought of one to fill it was you. The next step was taken by Mr. Bates who wrote to me asking if you were not the man for the place? The third act was a letter from Mrs. Stetson naming you but that was not until my purpose was formed for you to become our editor if you consented to it.
Mr. Bates like all others has made some mistakes, but is a grand character as a friend, a man of business, and a Christian Scientist in embryo.
P. S. Be sure that the letter to Mrs Dukes appears in the Oct. NumberAs Written:No. of Journal Preface or introduce the letter yourself as Editor
