My beloved students:

I have given a strong advertismentEditorial Note: See "The Washington News-Letter" in the June 1898 issue of The Christian Science Journal. to the Journal for the News LetterEditorial Note: The Washington News Letter was a publication edited by Oliver C. Sabin. When Mary Baker Eddy learned from John F. Linscott that Sabin had become a Christian Scientist and lost the principal patronage for his paper as a result, she encouraged Christian Scientists to subscribe for one year. Although Sabin had originally claimed to be a Christian Scientist and championed Eddy's teachings and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, it became apparent that he held beliefs that were not aligned with them. Eddy withdrew her support of Sabin and his paper, and his application for membership in The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, was denied.. This I did on the strength of your promise namely that you will keep the editor within proper bounds. If you do not it will be a great injury to our CauseEditorial Note: The cause of Christian Science.. Christian Science cannot be carried as anti‑slavery and temperance are or have attempted to be. Agitation injuresAs Written:injurs our Cause. We should always be in all publications Christlike. Matt 12:20 A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto victory. ".

Occasionally I write with no uncertain soundI Cor 14:8 For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle? but a student generally cannot discern just the point that I can or the time to do this.
