Your letter informs me of a fact that before I had no legal evidence of yet I had told Richard that such were As Written: we my impressions that you had without my consent or knowledge copied the Mss.Editorial Note: See A11314. of Dr. Quimby which belong exclusively to me and to such students as contract to receive their instructions After you refused to go on with your studies as per agreement I instructed Richard Kennedy to take the manuscriptsAs Written:Mss. from you and he wrote me he did so. Then I wrote you that even after your agreement to study with him this science that if you desired to give the bargain up I would relinquish my claim on this ground that for the use of the manuscriptsAs Written:Mss. that you had before with you, at the time of our agreement, and for the instruction you had already received I would in consideration of the 25 dollarsEditorial Note: $25.00 in 1869 is the equivalent of $475.76 in 2020. which you had paid me as an advance fee. give up our agreement

But now I learn from your own signature that you have retained a copy of those manuscriptsAs Written:Mss. This was a fraud for which I must hold you or any other person responsible who should commit such an act Now if you wish for a private settlement I will spare your feelings and charge you 50 dollsEditorial Note: $50.00 in 1869 is the equivalent of $951.51 in 2020. only for the copy; but if you do not wish to settle in this manner I shall certainly take measures to protect myself against such damage.
