This hour of my departureEditorial Note: Mary Baker Eddy and Asa Gilbert Eddy went to Fairhaven, Connecticut for the next five weeks where they were guests of Asa Eddy’s brother, Washington Eddy. I pick up from the carpet a piece of paper & write you a line to say I am at length driven into the wildernessMark 1:12 And immediately the Spirit driveth him into the wilderness. Everything needs me in ScienceEditorial Note: Christian Science, my doors are throngedEditorial Note: Eddy was apparently overwhelmed by students and others calling on her at her home. the book lies waitingEditorial Note: Eddy had been attempting to get the second edition of Science and Health ready for publication. It was published in October 1878. but those who call on me mentally in suffering are in belief killing me! stopping my work that none but me can do in their supreme selfishness; how unlike the example I have left them! Tell this to Miss Brown Mr McLauthlin Mrs Atkinson and Miss Norman but do not let them know they can call on me thus if they are doing this ignorantly and if they do it consciously tell McLauthlin and then all it would be no greater crime for them to come directly and thrust a dagger into my heart they are just as surely in belief killing me and committing murder

The sin lies at their doorGen 4:7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him. and for them to meet its penalty sometime you can teach them better, see you do this Oh!
