Now about advertisingEditorial Note: Bates had inquired in an earlier letter about placing advertisements for purchasing Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, and Mary Baker Eddy's other writings, in outside publications. At the time, Eddy suggested he might try it. See L08201.. Error says go too fast. I have worked thirty years to get an intermediate line of action for that is Christian Science. Now a large expenditure on advertising is useless. The money will be thrown away. The organs that charge such prices go into the hands of people whose hearts are not ready for Christian Science.

I never advertised outside of my own volumes and magazine but once and that did no good. I did not advise you to advertise and now you are carrying it to extremes. Hence my advice is to drop advertising altogether except in our own ranks.

With love
