Mr & Mrs Bates
My dear children,

I am anxious about you. I see that M. A. M. is handling you roughly and that Mrs Bates is terribly swayed by this false claim It is the woman that tempts the man again

The argument mental, in the minds of the mesmeristsAs Written:mesmesmerists, is, to Get every church member in debt and then get their real estate from them as they tried to get the land on which our church stands by failing to pay the mortgage.

Now forewarned ought to be forearmed Mrs. Bates must stop her real estate business. My terms of purchase named in my last letter must be heeded, or you will again be in the limbo over real estate that I have had to work out by redeeming mortgaged property.

Do not, Mr. Bates, purchase land for me unless it can be bought within my ability to pay for it when I have the deed.

As I would do for myself so I beg you will do for others Do not let them go deeply in debt to purchase land round the church Better "owe no manRom 13:8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. " than risk after this warning. If you Mr Bates will take the cup and drink all of it, then I will put you on the Board of C. S. DirectorsEditorial Note: The Christian Science Board of Directors and Mr Knapp can remain on also. God will one day open his eyes to see the wisdom of my advice, for he is a good man in his way — but has not grown to see what I see. As it is he better remain on the Board and learn from experience. You Mr Bates are needed on it and will do great good in this way if you heed what I say every time.

With deep love
