My beloved Student:

Has my startling last letter shocked you out of a mesmeric influence that is fatal to all who do not know what causes it? If such is the result I am paid for the great cross I took upMatt 16:24 ¶Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. Luke 9:23 ¶And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. when writing thus to you; You do know I love you deeply and so I try to help you in an hour of great need.

As ever yours tenderly, truly,
Mary Baker Eddy
