Dear Brother Hering:-

Our Leader has requested me to write you and ask you to assist her in a matter, which is growing to be much of an annoyance to her.

I refer to the fact that a number of ScientistsEditorial Note: Christian Scientists, who have apparently come to Concord from the Boston CommunionEditorial Note: On June 10, 1906, the first church services were held in the Extension of The Mother Church. These services were both a Communion and dedication service. To accommodate all who wished to attend, six identical services were held that day. After June 1908, Communion services were no longer held at The Mother Church., are making a nuisance of themselves by promenading before Pleasant View early in the morning and also showing themselves on the line of Mrs. Eddy's drive in the afternoon.

If possible, she would like to have you seek out these thoughtless visitors and bid them spend the time that they are wasting in the worship of personality in careful study of the Church Manual, especially the By-LawEditorial Note: In 1904 a By-Law was added to the Church Manual to address the issue of Christian Scientists trying to catch a glimpse of Eddy at her home. Found on page 48 of the Church Manual, the By-Law in its final form reads, "A member of The Mother Church shall not haunt Mrs. Eddy's drive when she goes out, continually stroll by her house, or make a summer resort near her for such a purpose.", which positively forbids precisely the thing that they are doing.

Mrs. Eddy desires that you say to them that Pleasant View is neither a watering-place where they may spend their summer vacations nor a hospital where they can steal their healing.
