That you had printed pages of my book Science And Health with Key to the ScripturesEditorial Note: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy surprised me! The pecuniary advantages of a revise would not weigh a farthing in my consideration of the subject. My object in writing that book is clearly seen when one remembers that at the time it first appeared a Professor at a distinguished University said "none but a woman or a fool would write such a book"! I accepted his conclusion clearly foreseeing that the cross consequent on its publication at that date no man would have taken up.
The science in "Science And Health" would surely be sacrificed with such a transformation as you suggest and that work was given to mortals because of the Science it contains. It is true that generally the scholar is not ready for Christian Science he must slowly study the whole mass just as it is put together in order to advance toward the subject and begin to understand the Science. His thought must become spiritualized before he can comprehend its most simple meaning.
"The carnal mind is not subject to the law of GodRom 8:7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. Rom 8:8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. ". The affections of this so-calledAs Written:socalled mind are modified and chastened by Christian Science then selfhood drops little by little into the scale of spiritual being – the reality of Life–. The contents of Science And Health must remain just as it was revealed to me — the scribe of a new revelation, whereof, I later discovered its divine Principle.
I request you to destroy at once all copies that you hold of Science And Health with Key to the Scriptures. One might as consistently transpose and versify Euclid in order to elucidate mathematics as to change the compilation or rendering of that work to elucidate the Science of Christianity, the healing of mankind morally and physically.
